In 2016, Robb and his wife, Heather, dove headlong into the massive and exciting challenge of being first-timer bird dog owners, with Lincoln, an American Brittany, learning to properly care for a bird dog puppy and doing canine obedience training together. When Lincoln transitioned out of puppyhood, Heather trained him in nose work and as her daily running companion and Robb found himself interested in hunting for the first time in his life, crediting his recruitment as a new upland hunter almost entirely on Lincoln and a desire to see him do what generations of careful breeding had prepared him to do. Robb also credits Lincoln with making a guy in his middle years feel like a kid again. They have since experienced many new joys together as field trial and hunt test participants, as wild bird hunters, and as regular bird dog training students and amateur assisting instructors at Orapax Hunting Preserve, in Goochland, Virginia. After hunting for Ruffed grouse and American woodcock together in Maine for several years, Robb became a Registered Maine Guide in 2023 just after Lincoln sired a litter at the end of 2022 for Fox Mtn. Brittanys outside Charlottesville, Virginia. Rooster, one of the pups from that awesome litter, became a cherished member of Robb’s, Heather’s, and Lincoln’s home and was added to Robb’s guide string. As fate would have it, Heather was recruited to Maine for a job in 2024 and Robb, Lincoln, and Rooster followed her to spend a lot more time in the Maine North Woods hunting and guiding. Robb regularly chronicles life with Lincoln and Rooster as a writer for a variety of local and national outdoor publications.
