Jay Brekke, DVM

Board Member

Jay is a veterinarian in Castle Rock, Colorado, practicing for the past 9 years. He currently owns 2 veterinary clinics in the Castle Rock community.

He has been pheasant and waterfowl hunting since he could follow his dad into the field. His grandfather was raised in South Dakota and grew up pheasant hunting. His family owns farm property in northwest Kansas that includes a custom earth home hunting lodge. For the past 10 years they have been working with Pheasants Forever, Kansas Division of Parks and Wildlife and the NRCS to improve habitat for wildlife. Their farm supports excellent habitat for pheasants, quail, deer, and turkey. Their passion is their dogs and their land and the wildlife it supports.

Jay’s love for upland hunting is shared with his best friends, his dogs. Whether it’s his Labrador retrievers, German shorthair pointers, or German wirehaired pointers, his love for hunting is best spent with his dogs. Currently he has  2 German Shorthaired Pointers, Gweny, 8yrs, and Bizzy, 10 months old.

He is inspired to join the Bird Dog Society Board to contribute hunting dog veterinary advice and support to all members. Along with veterinary expertise, he has a wide range of wildlife knowledge and over 30 years of bird dogging experience and a passion for this sport.
